Notes

  • Signing up for library card
    • Students can sign up online through website
      • Fill out everything and it saves the front desk time
      • Still have to come in and bring ID to prove that’s who you are
      • If people come in to get in-person card, takes about 5 min
      • Need drivers license, ID and up to date address on it
      • Students move a lot, we can issue a temporary card
        • We send a postcard and they bring that in to get full access
        • Temporary card expires sooner – only really gives you access to digital resources
      • Fine-free 3 years ago
        • Lucky we’re able to do that, weighed cost vs. patron usage of library. We can eat a little bit of cost. Most people started from clean slate. We care more about our materials returning than we do your fine. If you lost an item that was $10. It’s going off of the replacement fee.
        • Eventually it does go to collections after a certain point – not affect your credit type collections agency.
  • Physical materials
    • Large circulating collection – 91K books; 15K DVDs + magazines, newspapers and video games
    • Can take purchase requests – recent materials within last 3-5 years by the publishing date for purchase and more than likely we will get it for you
      • If we don’t buy it we can get it through interlibrary loan
    • Students looking for ILL – they push FHSU interlibrary loan
      • We only have part time staff
      • FHSU gets materials faster
      • If they are students, take advantage of FHSU ILL
      • If they aren’t students we can get it through our ILL
      • Within our district, we get it within 2 weeks; otherwise we get it through CKLS and some from all over US
      • FHSU ILL is more far reaching

    • Seemed to have waned in the last few years
    • Took it on a few years ago 2019 and there was a major wave. Crazy from FHSU and NCK Tech and Community College students. Was going to reform it of what to take and with 2020 COVID, it seems like most professors have moved to online student proctoring service. Not nearly the FHSU students, no one this semester. It was mainly the math department. Most have moved to online format or doing it themselves.
    • This service may change in the future, we may not offer it next semester
