    • Digital image library, high quality and high res. Rich metadata
    • All different eras ancient to modern, focused on creating selective solutions to challenges and working with education and digital environment
    • Exciting things happening with JSTOR July 1 where images are now searchable on JSTOR
    • 2.5 million images (300 collections) – private collections, institutional collections – highly curated from reliable sources. Rights are included. Good protection for users when utilizing within term and conditions. Diverse material.
    • 2 different URLS (artstor.org and you can navigate to Artstor Digital library at library.artstor.org)
  • They have an external website of libguides (using artstor, remote teaching and learning)

  • Browse
    • Artstor collections – definitive collections provided by ITHAKA
      • You can also sort by classification, geography or teaching resources
    • Institutional collections – we don’t have any, we could place some in this platform for our own use and/or make available to everyone else.
    • Public collections – freely accessible by anyone public domain or opted to make them accessible
    • Personal Collections – users can add their own pieces in (for artists) – Jennifer hasn’t seen a lot of that
    • Groups – groups of images
      • Groups can be private or for FHSU institution to see
  • Advanced Search
    • Pulls up results in thumbnail
    • From results list you see icons whether there’s other media related to the image or if other people have ranked the image.
    • Sidebar filter can limit by contributor
      • Photographs, paintings, technical drawings, virtual reality panoramic images
      • Ex search “virtual reality panoramic images” and search within the results to find “Hagia Sofia”
  • Detailed Page
    • Citation generation (APA, MLA, Chicago)
      • For image attribution, you’d need to use source info in metadata
    • Metadata and source info is on the right
  • Login to
    • Very important to log into it
    • Download images or add to group or add to detail page
    • You can use your JSTOR account if you have one
    • Need to use your FHSU email
    • Use the personal collections feature
    • ARTSTOR support is really responsive
  • Groups
    • Once you have a group of images, you can export it to PPT or a Zip file.
    • You can select how visible the group is (to the institution or privately to you)
  • Instructional Use
    • Lower level drawing classes – assignment to pick an artist and talk about their style
    • Art history is obvious use
    • Toby Flores and Applied tech are a bit more abstract uses of this resource
    • Less questions from students and more about working with faculty to know the tool and use it within their instruction
    • Presentation – identify different movements and artists
    • Studio classes – what interests you, what do you see here
    • COMM 100 – they have to do speeches with a visual aid
    • Copyright includes quite a few uses – public display performance, non-commercial, scholarly, commercial
      • Copyright checkpoint to assess rights of images and text (tool that’s still in Beta)
