  • Licensing - has to be for an educational purpose related to a class. Classroom teaching, research presentations, educational non-commercial project, use in educational institutions provided that no admissions are charged for public viewing. (Ex. play video in union or library)

Searching & Browsing

  • Browse by
    • Subject - major subject headings and subheadings
    • Popular Categories - select popular categories
    • Featured Producers - A-Z list with number of titles available from each
    • Calendar: features relevant videos for that month including celebration months/days, birthdays, notable events, etc.
  • Search
    • Basic - single search bar
    • Advanced - connecting keywords with boolean and specify format (video, printables, audio)
      • Video filters to specify: type, producer, language, subject, copyright date, format (segments, titles, series)
      • Advanced filters: to only show videos with
        • closed captioning (CC)
          • FOD strives for 100% caption rate in English; do not caption foreign language content. Contact them if you find something not captioned.
