ProQuest Search Steps

Search Tips

There are several ways to browse through this collection: use the basic search or advanced search and refine results, browse subjects or browse the featured books on the homepage.

  • The database automatically searches the "keyword and full text" fields with the keywords you enter.
  • Use quotations to search “exact phrases”
  • Advanced Search
    • Specify whether your keywords are intending to search the title, author, subject, or other fields.
    • Click the + button to add another search term
    • Add additional search criteria based on desired download format (pdf or epub), status, number of copies, and dates.

Finding an Ebook

  1. Type in a keyword like "business management"
  2. Use the tabs at the top of the results list to navigate between Book Results and Chapter Results.
  3. Near the upper right of the page, sort your results by relevance, publication date, or title,
  4. From the results list, use the "Refine Your Search" sidebar to narrow the status, publication date, subject, language, and author.
  5. Click on the book's title or the bulleted list icon to view the book detail page. Click on the open book icon to start reading the book online.

Ebook Detail Page

The ebook description page includes additional information such as institutional availability and access, limits on the number of pages that can be copied and/or printed, the table of contents and more. There are also convenient features to share a permalink directly to the book, add  the book to your bookshelf, and generate a citation for the book. 

Reading an Ebook

The ebooks from ProQuest Ebook Central can be read directly in your browser or downloaded.

  • Click on the book title you want to read
  • Read Online (Browser)
    • Click the "Read Online" button or use the table of contents to navigate to a particular chapter to jump to that section reading it online in your browser.
    • Use the "search within book" feature in the sidebar to search keywords or concepts and quickly navigate to those sections of the ebook.
  • Download Chapter (PDF)
    • Use the Table of Contents to navigate to a particular chapter then click "Download PDF" to trigger a download directly to your computer. The PDF does not have a limit on the time you can use it, but you do have a limit of the number of pages you can download in this manner (displayed in the availability section of the book detail page).
  • Download Book (ACSM)
    • If you click "Download Book" you'll be prompted to open the book in your browser first and your full book download expire after a certain length of time (detailed in the download popup window). This triggers a .acsm download of the full book that needs to be opened in Adobe Digital Editions because of the digital rights management protections.
