Cross-Border Faculty Guide to the Library

Accessing Forsyth Library Resources

International Access to Forsyth Library Resources

The majority of the library's website, databases, and search tools are available to you in China. You may experience some slower loading times when accessing the library's databases and resources. Below are some tips to help you have the best library experience from abroad.

1) Alternate Library Homepage: http://search.library.fhsu.edu/

Go directly to http://search.library.fhsu.edu/ to bypass the image-heavy library homepage. You can also share this link with your students. If there is a resource in our catalog that you are unable to access/download the full text (due to bandwidth, timeouts, slow loading), please send an email to refserv@fhsu.edu or contact us using the form on our Chinese/English library guide with the title, authors, and date and we will provide the PDF.

2) FHSU VPN Connection

For faculty abroad, a VPN connection will provide the best access to Forsyth Library's resources. Follow the instructions for connecting to the FHSU VPN in order to improve your access.

3) Use the Recommended for Sias/SNU Databases

A short list of databases recommended to support the academic programs at Sias and SNU that are more reliable in accessing them from China have been listed under the "Recommended for Sias/SNU" database type list and will have a China flag icon next to them.

4) Interlibrary Loan

Most Interlibrary Loan services are still available to you while teaching abroad as many materials can be electronically delivered (articles, book chapters, document delivery). If you come across a citation or a resource that Forsyth Library doesn't have or if you see an item in the catalog that is physically on Forsyth Library shelves that you'd like a portion scanned and delivered to you, submit an ILL request.

  • Articles/Book Chapters: If Forsyth Library can obtain the article in electronic format, ILL requests will be delivered to you electronically through the ILL platform. We will send an email to the address affiliated with your ILLiad account when your item is ready.
  • Document Delivery - Request of up to 50 pages from Forsyth Library's physical materials to be scanned and delivered to your interlibrary loan account using the ILL platform.
  • If you have questions about interlibrary loan or need help resetting your ILLiad password, please contact Interlibrary Loan at 785-628-4351 or email iloan@fhsu.edu. The Interlibrary Loan department operates Monday to Friday 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
