Linking to Library Resources: Other Forsyth Databases

Describes best practices for linking to resources in library databases.

Linking to Other Forsyth Databases

Forsyth Library subscribes to a number of databases that are not connected to one of the big three vendors (Ebscohost, Proquest, or Gale). Best practices for linking to these databases vary, but here are some rules of thumb:

  1. Look for a permalink somewhere in the item record. It may be with other bibliographic information. It may be in one of the menus at the left, right, or top. It may also be an icon that looks like two links of chain or (rarely) only available through using the "cite" tool. Once you find it, add the proxy prefix.
  2. If you can't find a permalink anywhere in the record, look at the URL in the address bar. Does it appear to contain information specific to your search session? If not, add the proxy prefix and use that.
  3.  If you can't find a permalink anywhere in the record and the URL in the address bar appears to contain session-specific information, ask a librarian for help linking to the item.
