ReCap of Global Leadership Kickoff

Hello Tiger Family,

The Global Leadership Project (GLP) hosted its kick-off event last Thursday evening the 29th, and it was a tremendous success!  GLP sponsored Libuse Binder, author of 10 Ways to Change the World in Your 20's.   We had 276 students, faculty, and staff present in the Memorial Union for the presentation, as well as virtual college students and students at SIAS International University who viewed the presentation on-line.

Following the speaker, students were given the opportunity to participate in a "Party with a Purpose" (one of the concepts in Binder's book) at Neighbars just off campus.  The students were given information about how they can become involved in addressing global hunger issues (including the upcoming Numana event on Oct. 29th), as well as encouraged to sign a pledge against continuing global injustices surrounding food issues.

We would like to thank the sponsors of GLP that made the events on Thursday possible.  In particular, we recognize the support of the Provost's Office, the Virtual College, Forsyth Library, CTELT, the Center for Civic Leadership, and the Department of Leadership Studies.  Thank you also to the faculty who encouraged students to attend.  If you requested an attendance list for extra-credit, you will receive an email shortly with that information.

Thank you all for your support of the GLP and our students as they become Forward Thinking, World Ready.

Sincerely,

LeAnn Brown and Brett Whitaker - Co-Directors of GLP

Kelly Nuckolls - Student Coordinator of GLP

Mahbubani, Kishmore.  A Rudderless World.  New York Times Online, August 18, 2011.

"SINGAPORE — The demand for global leadership has never been greater. The world is truly lost in trying to find a way out of the current crisis. America is imploding. Europe is crumbling. London is burning. The Arab Spring has lost direction. China and India remain internally preoccupied. If ever there were a moment for a global leader to step up, this is it. So why is no leader emerging? "
