TEEL 431: Educational Psychology (Feldstein)

Plan

  1. Review the requirements for Part 1 of your Optimal Learning Plan. What questions will you need to find information resources to help you answer?

  1. Review the BEAM model for evaluating resources. Where would information resources about your teaching community fall in BEAM?

  1. According to BEAM, what types of resources would have the information you are looking for? (Books, websites, articles, etc.)

  1. Look over our FHSU Source Locator guide. Do you expect these resources to be popular, professional, scholarly, or government sources? Where could you find these resources?

  1. List at least three places you will search for information resources for your OLP. Be specific—list specific websites, data sets, scholarly databases, etc., and their URLs. Find suggestions on the TEEL 431 and Government Documents guides.
  2. Start your Community Context Search with the provided Log.

In this first stage of your Optimal Learning Plan you should address:

  1. Summarize the context in which you hope to teach.
  2. Include factors like the age/grade/content you'd like to teach.
  3. What are some of the sociological-cultural factors that will influence teaching and learning in your classroom?
  4. Pick one factor and address how you might incorporate that into your teaching/learning. (For example, in a rural/agricultural community you might employ units of study on plant growth, livestock management, or understanding where food comes from)
  5. How will you plan to address the developmental and diverse backgrounds of your students?
  6. What classroom practices might you use to celebrate your students Funds of Knowledge?
  7. Include 3 relevant and reliable resources to support your work (in Annotated Bibliography format).

This section will set the foundation for the remaining parts of your plan, so it's worth taking the time to think through these varied components.
