Enchanting the Desert"Enchanting the Desert," the pilot project in SUP’s Mellon-funded digital publishing initiative, enriches Henry Peabody’s 1905 slideshow of the Grand Canyon by using complex GIS mapping overlays and virtual recreations of the Canyon’s topography. Peabody’s images were formative for today’s experience of the Canyon, as the views shown on his slides have become the vista points of today’s national park. Eighty essays accompany the historic slideshow, exploring the history and geography of the landmark.
