AGRI 475: Seminar (McDonald)

This guide was designed for students in AGRI 475. It includes research tips and resources for finding sources related to agriculture topics. Also included are tips for searching, writing an abstract, and citing.

Abstract

What is an abstract?

A brief written summary of the objective, main points, and conclusions of your project. It is meant to be a preview of the longer paper or presentation because it helps readers understand what main themes are discussed helping them determine whether or not to view the full project. Think of an abstract as a movie trailer.

Abstracts should be able to make sense to the reader independent of your final paper or presentation, it's important to communicate your key ideas in the abstract for those who don't have time to read your paper or view your presentation. Abstracts also give a glimpse into the organization of your paper or project (often following scientific paper sections of the introduction, method, results, discussion).
