SWIPE Out Hunger 2015 Event

The 2015 SWIPE Out Hunger Event will take place on Saturday, October 24, 2015 in Forsyth Library. Join us!

Did You Know?

From Numana's "Our Mission" page, used by permission:

Hunger By the Numbers

Almost 1 in 6 people in the world suffer from lack of proper food

25,000 people die each day from hunger – more than tuberculosis, malaria and AIDS combined.  Imagine 71, 747 passenger jets crashing every single day.

6 million children a year die from hunger

1 every 6 seconds
10 every minute
600 every hour

Here’s what keeps us up at night:

Enough food is produced in the world for every person to have 4.3 lbs of food every day.  But the reality is, hunger and starvation continues to torment children, adults and families.  Numana can help you make a difference.

Our mission is to empower people to save the starving by raising awareness, providing actionable solutions and encouraging advocacy.

Through volunteer-driven, hands on meal packaging events, Numana enables others to send meals to countries where intense food insecurity exists.

Feed Others. Feed Your Heart.

When have you had the opportunity to spend a couple of hours saving lives?

Numana, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) public charity formed in August 2008 as an international hunger relief organization.

Numana offers a new way to help save the starving. By providing a hands on, actionable solution to hunger, Numana has enabled over 120,000 people to make a difference for the malnourished.

Numana facilitates food packaging events, where hundreds of volunteers serve together in two to four-hour shifts in an assembly line fashion packaging simple, nutritious meals.

Our life-sustaining meals, consisting of rice, soy protein, freeze-dried beans, and 21 vitamins and minerals targeted to help the immune system of malnourished people, are measured into bags, sealed, boxed, and prepared for shipment at our events.

At only 30 cents per meal, the ingredients, packaging, administration, and international shipping are covered.  The meals are delivered primarily through Salvation Army World Services Organization to school feeding programs, disaster relief and crisis situations."
